Our Mission
Â
Silver Trail was created to bring greater attention to wolves, the laws and decisions that affect them, and the realities they continue to face.
Â
Our mission begins with education, research, and awareness, but our long-term vision goes further. We are working toward building the resources necessary to support original wildlife research focused on wolves and their conservation.
Silver Trail is still growing, and we believe in being transparent about where we are today, where our funding goes, and what we hope to build in the future.
Â
What We Are Doing Now
Our current work focuses on making reliable information about wolves easier to understand and accessible to more people.
Â
Wolf Journal
Through the Wolf Journal, we research and publish articles about current wolf laws, management decisions, conservation issues, scientific research, and important developments affecting wolves in the United States.
We use government records, scientific literature, official wildlife-agency information, and other credible sources whenever possible.
Â
Education and Awareness
Wolf conservation can involve complicated laws, policies, management plans, and scientific questions.
Our goal is to explain these subjects clearly while helping more people understand what wolves actually face and why these issues matter.
Â
Research and Publications
Silver Trail reviews scientific literature, government policies, historical records, wildlife-management decisions, and current wolf cases.
Â
Our first major publication, The Price of Being a Wolf, explores the history, laws, conservation challenges, and human decisions that continue to shape the lives of wolves.
Â
Building a Future Research Fund
Silver Trail is a for-profit business, and product purchases help support both the continued operation of the business and our long-term wildlife research goals.
25% of product revenue is allocated to our future research fund.
This fund is being built gradually with the goal of supporting future wildlife research as Silver Trail grows.
The remaining revenue supports the costs required to operate and develop Silver Trail, including educational content, research materials, technology, website operations, marketing, product development, and the continued growth of the business.
We believe it is important for our customers and supporters to understand how their purchases contribute to what we are building.
Â
Our Long-Term Research Vision
Our long-term goal is to move beyond education and secondary research into original wildlife research.
As our research fund grows, we hope to develop projects that contribute to a better understanding of wolves, their behavior, ecology, relationship with human environments, and the policies that affect their survival.
Â
Areas we are interested in exploring include:
1. Wolf Behavior and Ecology
Studying wolf social behavior, communication, movement, ecological relationships, and interactions within changing environments.
2. Human-Wolf Conflict
Exploring approaches that may help reduce conflict between wolves, livestock, and human communities while supporting coexistence.
3. Conservation and Wildlife Policy
Examining how wildlife laws, management decisions, and conservation policies translate into real outcomes for wolves.
4. Technology and Wildlife Research
Exploring how data analysis, computational methods, imaging, tracking technologies, and other scientific tools may contribute to future wildlife research.
Â
Our Financial Roadmap
Our research program will develop gradually as Silver Trail grows.
Â
Stage One: Build the Research Fund
Our first goal is to grow a dedicated fund through product sales and the continued development of Silver Trail.
Stage Two: Early Research Projects
As resources become available, funding may support research tools, data access, literature-based projects, independent analyses, and potential research collaborations.
Â
Stage Three: Original Wildlife Research
Our longer-term goal is to develop and support original projects focused on wolves and wildlife conservation.
Long-Term Vision
Ultimately, we hope Silver Trail can contribute useful research and knowledge that supports a better understanding of wolves and more informed wildlife conservation decisions.
Growing With Transparency
Silver Trail is at the beginning of this journey.
We do not want to present future goals as if they have already been achieved. Instead, we want visitors to be able to see what we are doing today and follow our progress as the organization grows.
As our research fund, educational work, publications, and future projects develop, we plan to share updates here.
Every article published, every person reached, and every step toward future research is part of building something larger.
Our goal is simple: understand wolves better, help others understand them too, and build toward research that can make a meaningful contribution to their future.
